Exciting performance at early music festival

DYNAMIC ensemble Eclipse gave one of the most exciting performances of Brighton Early Music Festival 2006 with their 'Spanish Spice' programme of baroque music and flamenco dance.

Now they present a special one-off concert, 'Spanish Heart' on Friday, March 30 to help raise funds for the 2007 festival.

Once again the group is joined by the flamenco dancer Gabriela Rosa, and also by soprano, and festival co-artistic director, Clare Norburn.

The concert will be at St George's Church, Kemp Town, Brighton, at 8pm and promises to be feast for the senses.

It comprises instrumental music, songs, flamenco dance and storytelling from medieval and baroque Spain.

Eclipse are Joy Smith (harps, hammered dulcimer), Layil Barr (recorders, viol), and Andres Ticino (percussion).

Themes of love, betrayal, loss and hope weave through Eclipses performances and the dances evoke the vibrant heart of a gypsy encampment.

Alongside the fundraising concert we plan to run a silent auction featuring attractive and unusual lots including lessons with some of the early music stars featured in the festival.

Bids will be taken on line as well as at the concert.

In addition there will be a raffle for prizes including CDs and festival season tickets.

While the final line-up of the Festival in October depends on funding, it is hoped to welcome back Emma Kirkby as well as two top class groups for the first time at BREMF, the Dufay Collective and Gothic Voices. Details will be released in June or July.
