WICK ONLY DRAW AFTER MISSED PENALTY

WICK increased their unbeaten run to 10 league games on Saturday, but should have left Midhurst with all three points after missing a second-half penalty.

Wick won the spot-kick when Danny Curd was fouled in the penalty area. Regular penalty taker Marc Cooper was out injured, so left-back Dave Sharman '” who had won a training ground shoot-out stepped up.

But, his effort was saved by Midhurst keeper Stuart Burt low to his left.

Wick could then have had another penalty late on, but the referee adjudged that a Midhurst tackle on Tom Manton was fair.

Midhurst shaded the first half, but Wick still had two great opportunities to score. Curd and Manton both had one-on-one chances saved.

In the second period, Curd was again denied by Burt, when he was unable to lift the ball over him.

Tony Miles went close with a header from a corner, and Stuart Bennett flashed an effort across the goal which no one was able to reach.

Wick boss Andy Gander said: "We had enough chances to have won, but a draw is not a disaster as we are not going to win every game.

"In the second half, we seemed to get to impatient as they were physical and strong and blocked our way to goal."

Tuesday's scheduled game with St Francis Rangers at Crabtree Park was postponed because bulbs in Wick's floodlights are yet to be fixed. Wick are waiting for conditions to dry sufficently to enable a crane to get onto the pitch to change the bulbs,

Wick are away to Steyning on Saturday. Cooper will still be out injured, but Wick should otherwise be at full-strength.

WICK: Davey; Howcroft, Miles, Woolmer, Sharman; S.Bennett, Yassan, Christodoulou, Manton; Curd, Miller. Subs: Cullen, Hunt, Lee, Howard, J.Bennett.
