STEYNING PUSHED CLOSER TO THE DROP

STEYNING Cricket Club's fight for Premier Division survival has reached critical point. Their defeat to Eastbourne on Saturday leaves them 29 points adrift of third-bottom East Grinstead, who still have a match in hand. This Saturday, they travel to Brighton in a game they just have to win.

Steyning had targeted Saturday's game with Eastbourne as winnable but as soon as they saw Tim Ambrose turn up, they knew it would be tougher than they had originally hoped for.

Ambrose, a Sussex-contracted wicket-keeper batsman scored 104, although when he had scored just three from two deliveries, Nick Colley dropped a simple chance at first slip.
