Scott misses out on Olympic spot

The Battle shooter was overlooked for the two places to represent Great Britain in the double trap discipline at the London Games later this summer.

The British Olympic Association announced on Monday the 10 shooting athletes selected to represent Team GB at the famous Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich. As expected, the places in the double trap went to Peter Wilson and Richard Faulds.

The 35-year-old Faulds was selected for his fifth consecutive Olympic Games. He won double trap gold at the 2000

Olympics in Sydney - Britain’s first gold medal in trap shooting since 1968.

Current world number one Wilson, 25, set a new world record at the World Cup in Tucson earlier this year, adding to the World Cup and European Championship titles he won in 2011.

Speaking on Tuesday evening, Scott hadn’t heard whether or not he had claimed the reserve spot but was confident of getting the better of Stevan Walton for that position.

As reported in last week’s Observer Sport, Scott beat Faulds and Walton when finishing second at the European Championships in Cyprus on Tuesday May 22. The three of them also grabbed team silver for Great Britain.
