RUGBY: Seven tries give Littlehampton first win

LITTLEHAMPTON Rugby Club celebrated their first league win of the season on Saturday as they defeated Pulborough 2nd 41-5 in Sussex League Division 2 West.

Craig Walters' early try, which John Allen converted, got Littlehampton off to a fine start and they continued to dominate in the scrums.

However, it took Littlehampton 20 minutes to add another try. Mark Quinney received the ball from a quick tap penalty and he off-loaded to Bryan Newman, who went over, as did Allen again to take the score to 17-0 at half-time.

Dean Torode then replaced Allen, and he was straight into the action to convert Craig Boddington's try.

Pulborough did then break through Littlehampton's defence and pull one try back, but Torode's quick tap penalty went to Ian Richie and then out to Ben Best, who touched down.

Torode ran in and converted his own try, and Bobby Mathews then completed a good move, started by Richie's pick up, as he side stepped the full-back to score.

LITTLEHAMPTON: Quinney, Russell, Simmonds, Merridue, Eames, G.Kierle, Newman, Boddington, Singleton, Allen, Mathews, Best, Wood, Richie, Walters. Subs: Lindsay, Lovegrove, C.Kierle, Torode.
