Rooks blow as goal ace Cade sits out

The Rooks will be missing prolific striker Jamie Cade for five to six weeks after he damaged ankle ligaments in a training accident on Thursday last week.

Cade is Lewes's top Conference South goalscorer this season with five and will be sorely missed for tonight's visit from Bishops Stortford as crowd favourite Jean-Michel Sigere is still struggling for match fitness.

Manager Steve King said: 'Cade's injury is a blow but at least Paul Booth is off the transfer list now and happy after we had a heart-to-heart, and I can also call on Ludovic Dje, who came on as a substitute in the FA Cup win at Hendon on Saturday.'

King has Frenchman Dje, who made three league appearances for Stockport County, on month-to-month terms and describes him as 'a strong boy who wins headers as a target man.'

The impressive and versatile Derek Duncan could be playing his last game of his loan spell from Leyton Orient. King said: 'I'm desperately trying to get the loan extended but he's a good player and Orient want him for their first-team squad. It would be great if the fans showed their appreciation of him tonight.'

Simon Wormull kicked the bottom of a Hendon player's foot on Saturday and suffered bruising but is expected to be available tonight, but the recently-returned Junior Kadi is away on international duty with Sierra Leone.

Currently on trial at the Dripping Pan is versatile midfielder Alex Tiesse, who hails from the Ivory Coast and was a youngster at Millwall before a spell at Woking. Jay Saunders has now made his loan move to Margate a permanent one.

Lewes did the league double over Bishops Stortford last season winning 3-0 away and 2-1 at home, Sigere scoring three of the goals.

King said: 'They've got a different team this season and are six points in front of us, but a win would put us back in there within three. We need to attack the game.'

However, the Rooks will need to take care at the back '“ Stortford have scored 19 league goals this season from ten different players.

King said he was just relieved to come through Saturday's cup tie at Hendon 2-0. He went on: 'You look at the teams that have gone out in shocks in this round and you realise the cup is only about getting that result.

'I wasn't totally happy with our performance at Hendon but I wasn't unhappy either as they never looked like scoring. Wilko only had one save to make and you and me would have stopped that one.'

The Rooks took a useful prize of 3,750 from the game and are playing for 5,000 when they visit Dorchester in the next round tomorrow week.

Of the tie King said: 'They've only beaten us once in five occasions and we must go and do a job. The draw might have been kinder but I'm confident it's winnable.'
