Rebels could be thrown out of it

WORTHING FC rejected a local substitute linesman who referees at County League level and could be thrown out of their league cup after Tuesday night.

A linesman had to retire when his contact lens moved behind his eyeball and he needed expert medical help. But Worthing manager Danny Bloor refused to allow him to be replaced by a level six official from the crowd Leatherhead said had helped in such situations before.

Bloor stated: "My coach Paul Rogers and I agreed that this was unsatisfactory. He could have been anyone. The referee offered us the option of an abandonment and told us the game would have to be replayed. We were trailing 1-0 but the game was just getting set up."

Worthing must now answer a charge of failing to fulfil a fixture reasonably, with the possibility of a fine and reinstatement, or straight ejection from the cup.
