RDA GROUP IS HAPPY IN NEW HOME

THE Southdowns Riding for Disabled group, previously based at Newbrook Farm, Upper Beeding, is now happily settled in its new base at Brinsbury, near Pulborough.

The group, which has been established for more than 30 years, currently enables around ten children from Portslade's Hillside School and a few adults from elsewhere to continue to achieve through riding.

The group is under the wing of Gill Brown, lecturer in equine studies at the Brinsbury campus of Chichester College. Gill used to teach the group at the previous base in Upper Beeding.

She said: " The group was there for many years and is immensly grateful to Jill Blake and everyone there for all their hard work. There were problems with drainage there and when I took up a full-time post at Brinsbury and it was possible to move the group here, where there is the benefit of all the college equine facilities and horse, it was the obvious way to go."

Gill said the move had taken a lot of setting up and it had been lucky that all the volunteers working with the group had been able to make the move across to Brinsbury too.

She added:" We have taken over some of the college horses here, which are loving it. It is good for the children to benefit from better horses and they have all settled in brilliantly. They have sessions here every Tuesday morning and have the use of the college indoor school as well as two outdoor schools, which means they can ride regardless of the weather."
