Park go down as they draw blank

THE twists and turns in the East Sussex Cricket League division one relegation battle went right to the wire on a rainy Saturday last weekend as Heathfield Park joined Barcombe for the drop and Fletching breathed a huge sigh of relief.

Barcombe always looked doomed and were beaten by 29 runs at Crowhurst Park, while Park had a desperate day at Iden where they failed to gain a batting point in a score of 112 and then saw the hosts get home by ten wickets which meant no points in the match.

In the meantime Hellingly and Herstmonceux fought out a high-scoring game, with the latter getting home by five wickets. Hellingly took 15 points and Ceux 21 which saw both to safety.

Fletching, meanwhile, could only sit and watch as their game at Seaford was abandoned because of the weather with the hosts at 152-3, but the nine points awarded proved good enough as they finished four above Heathfield Park thanks to the latter's demise.

Ditchling are the champions of Division One as they collected 30 points in a six-wicket victory at Newick. Patrick Nolan (48 not out) and Ollie Burns (63 not out) saw Ditchling home and skipper Nolan said his team are relishing being back in the top flight after going so close in each of the last three seasons.

Chiddingly also go back to the top division but Crowborough are relegated.

The Intersport Of Lewes Trophy semi-finals will be played tomorrow when Ringmer face Glynde & Beddingham and Crowhurst Park are at home to Rye.

The Plate semi-finals will also be staged with Lewes St Michaels at home to Seaford and Barcombe tackling Heathfield Park.

St Michaels will face Nicolaas Scholtz and Paul Mason, who will skipper Seaford, but Colin Wells is on holiday and a number of regulars will also be missing.
