Mussels grab vital win

In a tight encounter, Mussels went ahead on 16 minutes. Stuart Townsend's long throw came off the head of Wick midfielder Aaron Meehan and Annis coolly lobbed Wick keeper Steve Phillips from eight yards.

Ben Torode fired over Wick's best chance of the first half, just a minute before half-time.

Wick started the second half brightly and after Dave Sharman had headed over, they equalised on 50 minutes. Dave Hall's attempted cross from the right went between Shoreham keeper Darren Prior's hands and dropped into the goal off the back post.

A rare mistake by Wick defender Gary Young led to the winning goal. His back-pass was intercepted by Annis, who lifted the ball over Phillips on 60 minutes.

Annis had a hat-trick effort ruled out for offside five minutes later before Wick pressed for an equaliser. Matt Axell, Sharman, Phil Turner and Asa Nicholson all had half-chances but failed to hit the target.

Shoreham gave debuts to defenders Stuart Axten, who is dual-signed with Worthing, and Mark Burt, who has returned to the club from Lancing.
