MULLETS POINT TO BE DOCKED

ARUNDEL produced a much-improved performance at Hassocks on Saturday after their disappointing show at Worthing United the previous week, but it will ultimately be in vain.Mullets will be docked the point because substitute George Smith, who came on for Steve Blake on 55 minutes, is signed on at Redhill.

Smith is a youth-team player at Crawley, but did not mention to Arundel boss Wayne Flynn that he was also still a Redhill player.

Arundel chairman Bob Marchant said: "I got a phone call Saturday evening telling me that he was registered with Redhill.

"We will get a fine and lose the point. I don't see how the player cannot know he is signed on with another club, seeing as he last played for them in December."

In a stop-start first half on Saturday, Hassocks' Pat Harding drilled a shot against the bar before Jason Wimbleton headed Arundel ahead from a well-worked corner routine.

But the home side were level six minutes later when a neat move down the left was half-cleared to James Laing, whose shot was spilled by keeper Ben O'Connor to leave Graeme Beveridge a simple tap-in.

Arundel nearly went into the break ahead, but Andy Boxall's acrobatic volley struck the bar.

Hassocks dominated much of the second half, but Miles Scerri almost struck with a clever lob, which Hassocks keeper Alex Simpson only just reached.

Laing, Pat Harding, and Richard Thomas were all denied by O'Connor '” who again had an excellent game '” before he was beaten late on, but Harding's shot rebounded off the bar and to safety.

Arundel are at home to Southwick on Saturday.

ARUNDEL: O'Connor; Jones, Pidgeon, Bush, Green; Walker, Blake, Wimbleton, Norgate; Scerri, Boxall. Subs: Corbett (Green 13), Smith (Blake 55), Kentch, Flynn.
