Kyria heading for the top

Local tennis player Kyria Dunford from Uckfield won the Goodacre Property Services Ltd Tournament Beckenham Junior Open staged from July 24 to July 29.

It has increased her chances of a trip to Center Parcs, Sherwood Forest, to compete in the finals of the Sunday Telegraph/ Center Parcs Junior Tennis Grand Prix.

The tournament featured some of the country's finest junior tennis players. Dunford, who played in the girls's 12 and under category, put in a number of solid performances before beating Croydon's Daniella Persaud 6-0, 6-1 in the final.

The Grand Prix consists of 73 tournaments across the country, scheduled between April and August, with players picking up performance-related points at all the events in which they participate. Dunford's latest performance will earn her 100 points towards her Grand Prix score.
