Iggle Piggle and the Cookie Monster put best feet forward in 10k

Father-of-two Gavin Dutton, 35 and his nephew Sam Duggin ran the race dressed as well-known children’s characters Iggle Piggle and the Cookie Monster.

Gavin said: “We were running for the Checkatrade Foundation. At the moment we’re trying to raise money for

a little boy called Harvey who has cerebral palsy. He can’t walk and we want to raise money to give

him the life-changing operation that will give him the gift of walking and running.

“Some £50,000 needs to be raised and we have received more than £300 in sponsorship with 13 members of staff

running from Checkatrade.

“Being a father is the biggest reason I put these costumes on - seeing the smiles on kids’ faces is another way I Last year the Selsey-based company raised £8,500 for a little girl called Evie to have an operation which allowed

her to hear her parents’ voices for the first time.

Already this year the Checkatrade Foundation has raised £2,000 through raffles and dress-up days in the office. A team of ten members of staff are preparing for a sponsored parachute jump later this year.

Two other members of staff, Richard Spiceley and David Price Evans, came in joint last but still had smiles

on their faces.

Richard said: “It was a really interesting experience. Ten years after a heart attack it was my first major running event and it spurs me on to do some more. I know we came in joint last but it was more important to stick together as a team on this occasion.

“I want to raise money for Harvey because he can’t walk. Hopefully this is going to help him have a much freer and more fulfilling life.”

Harvey’s father Nick Young: added “So far we’ve raised £2,400, which is quite amazing! There are also plenty of plans being made for even more fundraising activities. We want to say thank you to everyone that has supported us. It’s really quite humbling.”
