Horsham’s Miller reaches final after thriller

Horsham IBC bowler David Miller used home advantage to beat David Hubbard in an exciting contest to reach National Singles Area Final.

The snowy weather played havoc with the weekend’s fixture list but did not prevent Sunday’s area semi-final at Broadbridge Heath between arguably the two best players in Sussex.

Watched by a number of hardy Horsham IBC members who braved the snow, Miller raced into an early 7-2 lead over Adur Club bowler Hubbard.

The away player though cameback to level at 7-7 after eight ends, and at the end of 15 ends there was still no separating the pair with the score 12-12.

Hubbard went 13-12 up, but from there the Horsham player took charge to win 21-13 and end a match of the highest quality.

Miller will now contest the area final on a neutral green, to be arranged at a later date.

On the previous Monday Horsham Ladies were unlucky not to record a win at Preston in a league match.

Horsham lost by only four shots, but by four rinks to two.

On Wednesday Horsham IBC enjoyed a good friendly win against Sutton & District BA.

The overall 154-85 shots score rather flattered Horsham’s winning margin.

Top Horsham rink was Derek Bunday, Ken Holloway, Barry Baillie and skip Geoff Kentish 41-14.
