Horsham athletes to represent Sussex at English Championship

Four members of the Horsham Blue Star Harriers have been picked to represent Sussex in the English Schools Cross Country Championships.

Caroline Wirth, Adrian Fautly, Francis Scarr and Cami Cowan put in creditable performances during the Sussex Schools Championships at Bexhill at the weekend, and will now go on to represent the county at the English event next month in Derby.

In the junior girls’ race, Wirth produced an outstanding performance to take third place, running 14m,12s for the 3,000m course.

In the same race, Neave Scott clocked 14m,45s to take ninth place, just three seconds ahead of Erin Bateman in tenth, with Bronwen Thomas close behind in 15th place.

A challenging 6,900m course faced the senior boys team, and Blue Stars Fautly and Scarr were at the sharp end.

The teammates enjoyed a good battle, with Scarr finishing fourth, nine seconds ahead of fifth placed Fautly, who clocked 27m, 21s.

Alex Best, who struggled with the conditions and slipped over four times, gamely finished in 17th place in 29m, 35s and Euan Ramage took 27th place in 32m, 33s.

Cowan was another Blue Star to excel on the day with a fourth place finish in the Senior Girls race, she ran 16m, 33s for the 4,000m race.

The Junior Boys race saw Jamie Hughes finish in 19th place and in the Intermediate Boys race Marcus Ramage took 14th place, and Rebecca Farrow finished 20th in the Intermediate Girls race.
