H&B confident of Vase upset

HASTINGS & Bexhill assistant coach Rob Hamilton insists his team can defy the odds in their biggest ever cup fixture.

H&B are the lone bearers of the Sussex flag in round four of the Powergen National Vase on Saturday December 13 but the draw has handed them a tough trip to ambitious London Four high-flyers Aylesford.

Neutral observers would probably rate the William Parker school outfit as around 30-point outsiders but the 28-0 win at Crawley, also a London Four club, in the previous round has given them great heart.

Hamilton said: "It's the biggest cup game we've ever had and we don't feel we are without a chance. They're not invincible and I don't think Aylesford would win 28-0 at Crawley. We will have to play very well, there's no doubt about it but we feel after Crawley we do have the ability."

H&B go into the match on the back of a 20-5 win over Crowborough in the Sussex League. Tom Brampton (2), Neil Redman and Paul Northen grabbed the tries.
