GORING'S EXTRA GEERES

GORING notched their first league win this season, despatching faltering Burgess Hill by eight wickets, while title possibles Findon and Broadwater had exciting draws.

Brothers Chris and Dan Geere, just two of Goring's teenagers, helped dismiss struggling Hillians for 141, then another, Richard Stanley made his third league fifty and shared 78 for the first wicket with Andy Pass. Zimbabwean Gus McVey, up from the 3rd XI, added an unbeaten 41.

Veteran left-arm spin maestro Neil Chitty changed the complexion of Findon's game at Arundel after they were 132 without loss and Chitty himself had gone for 50 runs off his first 12 overs. Graham Waller was to reach 88 and Richard Iago (spot the sequence) added 50 to his previous 0, 60 and 0 in his first Findon season.

Chitty proceded to take eight for 12 off his next nine overs and ultimately enjoyed the privilege of determining the final result.

Findon spinners, in their turn earned the eventual parity. Toby Kingsbury (off) and Mark Stewart (leg) shared six wickets, Stewart's two in the first of the last two overs when Arundel required nine to win. Chitty then joined son Ryan at the crease as the last pair, needing seven to win, off Kingsbury.

With four needed off the last ball and all three results possible, Neil Chitty facing, a draw it was.

Broadwater, without football-injured all-rounder Joe Owen for severalweeks, excelled in their middle order against Pagham, who were willing but unable to threaten their target of 203.
