YM continue to feel effects of a lack of action with dull Rye draw

YM have now lost twice and drawn once since returning from a month’s lay off due to postponements following the recent poor weather, exiting the John O’Hara League Cup and slipping to fifth in the Division 1 table in the process.

And Saturday’s performance offered little to suggest they are any closer to recapturing their form from earlier in the season, as the scoreline told the story of an arduous affair, during which both sides struggled to create many clear cut chances.

Assistant YM manager Paul Cooper said: “Our quality seems to have slipped the last few games. I think we’re going through a little bit of a confidence crisis potentially.

“We’re talking the players through things and we’re telling them what we’re looking for, but I think it’s up to the players now to start taking responsibility individually and as a team.”

Neither sides did enough to warrant winning the game, although a moment of magic almost did for YM at the death, as Dave Brown’s swerving 30-yard strike was well tipped over by Quarterboys ‘keeper Greg Nessling in added time.

Cooper added: “Rye will be a lot happier than we are today. I don’t think we created enough chances and we didn’t get in behind the full-backs and their back four.

“A win would mean a lot right now and potentially kick us on, but the players need to step up.

“The quality has dropped for some reason, and I don’t know why?”
