YM boss gives strikers two games to start firing

Horsham YMCA’s misfiring strikers have been warned they have just two games to recapture their form before another forward is brought in.

Front two Martin Smith and Elliott Romain were scoring for fun during YM’s ten-game unbeaten run. But since that came to an end in October the goals have largely dried up along with the side’s form.

Boss Peter Buckland is in talks with a ‘prolific Sussex County One scorer’ and says he will move for the available player if things don’t improve.

“Elliott Romain and Martin Smith came out of the blocks like lightning bolts but that’s dried up of late and it’s costing us dearly,” Buckland said. “Games like Crowborough, and I’ve said this to their faces, we were 1-0 up but should have been 4-0 up after 15 minutes. That sounds like sour grapes because we lost but it’s not.

“Because we don’t have Dean Wright (long term injury) it leaves us short in attack, but I’ll give them two games to come up with the goodies before I sign the striker.”

Mark Zydonik has been allowed to sign for East Grinstead Town in the search of more playing time and in his place YM have signed centre back Chris Girdler from Sutton Utd.

YM’s last three games have been postponed because of the weather and they now face three tough away games back to back in the league.
