Tottenham Hotspur look to the Amex as possible temporary home

The American Express Community Stadium could provide a home away from home for Tottenham Hotspur in the 2016 season, according to a report in the London Evening Standard.

The premier league club is reportedly beginning to accept that it may be unable to play at White Hart Lane during the final season before its long-planned move to a new ground. Another alternative could be Ipswich Town's Portman Road ground.

Spurs' new stadium is a Â£400 million project that will see home capacity increase by 20,000 to 56,000.

The club hope to be playing in their new ground in time for the start of the 2017/18 campaign and its preferred choice had been to continue playing at White Hart Lane during the preceding season - despite heavy building work on the new stadium

Now, Daniel Levy, the club chairman, appears to have accepted such a prospect is unrealistic. As a result, a number of potential ground-share schemes are having to be considered.

Other possibilities include Wembley, the Olympic Stadium and Stadium MK, home of Milton Keynes Dons.
