Suter’s not getting carried away

LITTLEHAMPTON Football Club boss John Suter is not getting carried away with his side’s excellent recent run which has taken Golds into second place in County League Division 2.

After taking just four points from their first six matches, Golds have since won eight of their last 12 league games, losing just once, but Suter will not look further ahead than his side’s next game.

He said: “I don’t set goals – the only goal I ever have is to win our next game.

“The league table doesn’t mean a thing at the moment and we’ll just look at our next game.

“The table only means something at the end of the season.

“I don’t like it when people look at tables and say you can move up the table if you win a game. It doesn’t matter until the season finishes.”

Littlehampton’s recent run has delighted Suter, though, and he said: “Bearing in mind, we had a poor start – we won our first game but then took just one point from our next five matches. I looked at the table and we were second from bottom but since then we have climbed the table drastically.

“I can’t help but be pleased with the comparision between the first six league games and the matches since.”

The form of striker Jason Jarvis has coincided with Golds’ rise up the table.

He was playing for East Preston Reserves last season but has already netted 17 goals this campaign and Suter said: “To have 17 goals so far is quite an achievement.

“He’s been a little bit of a revelation since he joined. Our top scorer last season, Matt Russell, scored 16 goals and JJ already has 17 but we haven’t set him any targets – just to score as many as he can.”

After Saturday’s match at Mile Oak was postponed, Littlehampton entertain local rivals East Preston on Saturday then entertain Southwick on Wednesday.

Golds have Ross McKay and Niall O’Hagan suspended and Darryl Wollers is out for up to four weeks with a stomach muscle injury.
