Rye in pole position for title

That’s the verdict of manager Scott Price as the Quarterboys head into the final 12 fixtures of their Division One programme.

Rye are seven points clear of second-placed Pagham having played two extra matches and 12 ahead of fifth-placed Three Bridges, who have five games in hand.

Price said: “I still believe it’s (between) us three. I would definitely rather be in our position than Three Bridges’. If I’m honest I would take our position.

“I’m not saying that makes us favourites simply because of the games we’ve got. We’ve got to go to Pagham, we’ve got to go to Three Bridges, we’ve got to go to Redhill.”

Two of those fixtures Price mentions are coming up during the remainder of the month because after heading to Shoreham tomorrow (Saturday), Rye visit Redhill on January 21 and Bridges seven days later.

“If we come out of our next three games with nine points, I think we’ll take a lot of stopping,” continued Price. “We’ve got a good chance, but it’s never been done at Rye and it’s not easy to win any league.”

While Pagham have faded with just one win from their last seven league matches, Rye and Bridges have come on strong with seven wins out of eight and 10 wins out of 12 respectively.

Keen to top up his squad for the run-in, Price will be issuing a seven-day approach for Ben Billings (pictured), a left-footed wide player who began the season at Hastings United and who is now at Division Two high-flyers Hailsham Town.
