Ringmer result shows Chichester City's steady progress

A 1-1 draw against Ringmer meant Chichester had collected four Sussex League division-one points in six days '“ more points than over the preceding 21 weeks.

It was a nervy encounter, with the visitors requiring a point to make them safe from relegation and Chichester trying to pull themselves off the bottom of the table.

City closed down most of the Ringmer attacks and were quick going forward. With half an hour gone, a Chichester corner led to frantic pressure and a goalmouth scramble with the ball crashing off the Ringmer bar.

On 35 minutes, another melee in the Ringmer area resulted in a foul and Scott Dormer smashed in the spot-kick.

Ringmer introduced Marc Whiteman for the second-half and the City goal was under siege. On 65 minutes Tom Lyons delivered an inviting cross with Whiteman heading in from close range. Chichester showed great character to hold out for a draw.

City were without a recognised goalkeeper, Scott Dormer standing in.

Bridges controlled the game from the start and goals from Charlie Cookel, Tim Rivers (pen) and Abu Touray meant it was 3-0 at the break. Tom Smith reduced the arrears before Joel O’Hara and Touray made it 5-1.
