Ray ready for first away game

Sean Ray is gearing up for his first away match since being appointed player/manager of Hastings United.

The U’s will travel to Canvey Island tonight (Tuesday) keen to put a stop to back-to-back defeats in the Ryman Football League Premier Division, although admittedly both losses were against top six opposition.

But Canvey are likely to provide equally stiff opposition as the Essex club is only two points outside the top five and enjoys a good home record against United.

The U’s are currently three places and four points above the four relegation spots, and they possess a better goal difference than all of the teams beneath them. Ray remains sidelined with a foot problem.

Elsewhere tonight, Rye United will need to lift themselves after their weekend FA Vase disappointment when they go to Crowborough Athletic in round three of the Sussex County League’s John O’Hara League Cup.

Rye scored 12 goals in the two league meetings with Crowborough this season, with Scott Ramsay and Matt Maclean netting hat-tricks in the 7-1 drubbing at The Salts on October 26.

Both matches will kick-off at 7.45pm and news on how they pan out will appear on this website tomorrow morning.
