Late double lifts Shoreham in thriller against Oakwood
Shoreham are up to fifth in the SCFL division one table after a thrilling 3-2 win over Oakwood at Middle Road.
It was one of very few games on in the county and 179 fans, all Covid-19 compliant, got to see a very entertaining game.
The Musselmen went into the game as favourites and perhaps took their opponents too lightly.
Oakwood took a shock lead with on six minutes with a freak goal.
Rudy Stilgoe cleared the ball and it rebounded off an Oakwood player only to loop over Stilgoe, hit the post, roll along the line then back out. A Shoreham player tried to put the ball out of play but again it hit the post then fall to the feet of Oakwood’s Arnold Saurombe to slot it home.
Shoreham put the pressure on Oakwood for the rest of the first half, hitting the woodwork three times and missing plenty of opportunities to put the game to bed in the first half.
The second half saw Shoreham again with most of the possession and the better chances and eventually they found the net in the 51st minute with a well-placed header from Michael Death.
Against the run of play Oakwood took the lead again from another freak goal, scored by Christopher Neatherway, to make it 2-1.
Shoreham kept piling on the pressure and in the 88th minute Ramon Santos made it 2-2.
Then super sub Scott Clampin sealed the win with a 91st-minute goal.
That is three wins on the bounce and the Musselmen travel to rivals Mile Oak on Boxing Day. Support these local sides if you can.
