Golds sunk by Taylor’s brace away to Town

LITTLEHAMPTON Football Club player-manager George Gaskin was left wondering how his side failed to pick up at least a point at Eastbourne Town on Tuesday.

Jason Taylor struck once in each half as Eastbourne won 2-0 but Gaskin said: “We battered them and I still don’t know how we haven’t got at least a point.

“They caught us on the break in the first half and their second was a penalty. We felt the first instance was outside the penalty area and they also played on when Mitchell Hand was down injured.

“It’s a frustrating defeat as we had so many chances. I’m sure that if we’d scored a goal, we would have gone on to win the game.”

Golds went into the game with confidence after ending a seven-game losing run with a 5-0 victory away to Hassocks in the Sussex RUR Cup on Saturday.

However, Taylor netted after just six minutes to give Eastbourne the lead, before he scored from the penalty spot on the hour as the hosts won for the seventh time in eight league matches.

The game was moved to Eastbourne, owing to work taking place on the floodlights at The Sportsfield.

Golds entertain Pagham in the league on Saturday.
