EP on the brink of promotion as they hit the 100-goal mark

EAST Preston Football Club are on the brink of promotion from County League Division 2 after their 23rd league win of the season on Saturday.

EP passed 100 league goals for the season with their 2-0 success at Seaford and will be promoted this Saturday if they win at third-placed Dorking Wanderers, or if Littlehampton fail to beat Oakwood.

EP dominated throughout at Seaford, who dropped to the bottom of the table after their ninth defeat in 10 league games, and took the lead on 14 minutes.

Charlie Oatway struck for his 26th goal of the season – and seventh in four matches – from 10 yards after Chris Hibberd passed the ball inside.

George Gaskin then got through after Seaford defender Lewis Parsons missed the ball but blazed well over.

Seaford’s Scott Dartall had an effort well blocked, while EP’s Matt Axell and Barney Boutwood both had efforts cleared off the line.

EP sealed the win with 11 minutes left with a spectacular goal-of-the-season contender from George Gaskin, who fired home a dipping effort into the top corner from 40 yards for his 38th goal of the season.

Seaford could have pulled a goal back with seven minutes to go but Parsons’ shot from the edge of the area was cleared off the line.

The win was EP’s ninth on the bounce and boss Dominic Di Paola said: “It was a comfortable win and we dominated from start to finish.

“I am proud that we have passed the 100-goal mark in the league and to do this so early in the season is a great achievement.

“We can get promoted against Dorking on Saturday now. It’s a big game so, fingers crossed, we can do it.”
