He said “It’s a terrific friendly for us. Every player will have to be switched on, in and out of possession because if we are not we will be punished.

“Also we have some young lads who have aspirations to play at a higher level and it’s a chance for them to prove themselves.

“On a personal note, it is great for me and my coaching staff to watch how we react to having a team dominate possession against us and how we react and how quickly we organise ourselves.”

After the visit of Chris Wilder’s side, the Hillians then welcome another League 2 side as Crawley Town play their first pre-season fixture (Wednesday 15th July – 7:30pm)

Hill kicked off pre-season with a 5-2 win over Loxwood. New signing Phil Johnson opened the scoring and within a minute it was 2 as Pat Harding netted. Scott Kirkwood added a third before half time.

Chapman changed 10 of his 11 first half team and it didn’t take long for Dan Perry to find his scoring boots as he added the fourth soon after the break. Johnson got his second of the game and Hill’s 5th of the match midway through the second half. Loxwood pulled two back in the final five minutes, but it was a pleasing start for Chapman’s side.

The shopping mall in the centre of Burgess Hill have been a sponsor of the Hillians for over 10 years and took up the sponsorship of the tracksuits for the first time last season.
