Bridges have edge in title battle

The Crawley-based outfit is now just nine points behind Sussex County Football League Division One leaders Rye with five games in hand.

Price said: “If we had beaten Shoreham and won our next two games I would’ve put us down as firm favourites, but I think Three Bridges have got the edge now. It’s going to be hard, but we’ve all got to play each other.”

Last weekend was a bad one for Rye as they lost 2-1 away to Shoreham, while fourth-placed Bridges beat Ringmer 4-2 to make it 11 wins and two draws from their last 13 league games.

Rye have won two and lost two of their last four, and Price admits he is not best pleased with his team’s form ahead of a key game away to a seventh-placed Redhill side which has won five of its last six tomorrow (Saturday).

“I’m not too happy with the way we’re playing at the moment,” he continued. “I know we did well against Lingfield (who Rye beat 5-0 on January 7), but it was because we had to with 10 men.

“The week before that (against) Peacehaven (who Rye beat 1-0 at The Salts on January 2) I wasn’t happy. I think there will be some changes on Saturday and some surprise ones as well.”

Price, who hopes to have Paul Watson available, added: “It’s a must win game. It will be a tough one, but we know we’re good enough to beat them.”
