Five star display from Bexhill

Bexhill’s rowers claimed a total of five wins at Worthing and Worthing Town Regattas.

The successful weekend means the club tops the Coast Amateur Rowing Association (CARA) table by 35 points from second-placed Deal after four meetings, with Shoreham in third.

The Worthing double header was contested in marvellous weather. The men’s senior four were in dominant form with Mark Mitchell, Doug Holdaway, Matt Hellier and Kieran Cahill winning on both days after very close races with Deal.

The men’s senior pair of Mitchell and Cahill also triumphed after seeing off Deal by four lengths.

Bexhill’s final win on Saturday came in the mixed under-14 quad as the crew of Toby Golledge, Abbie Little - who tackled a grand total of 10 races over the course of the weekend - M. Jones and J. Matthews got home by a length over Shoreham.

Day one also saw second place finishes for the men’s junior senior four, vet 50+ four, vet 40+ four, men’s senior sculls and men’s novice sculls. Third place finishes were taken in the men’s and ladies’ junior fours, men’s senior pairs, men’s senior sculls, men’s u16 quads and ladies’ u16 quads.

Bexhill’s other win on day two came from Cahill in the men’s senior sculls following a very tight race with the Deal sculler.

The club also notched second place finishes in the men’s novice four, men’s senior pairs, vet 40+ four and ladies’ u16 quads. Third places went to the men’s junior senior four, vet 50+ four, ladies’ senior four, men’s senior sculls and mixed u14 quad.

Bexhill will go to Shoreham on Saturday and Brighton (Hove) on Sunday seeking further success.
