Esther in the driving seat

KENYAN Esther Kaiplagat smashed the Hastings 10k women s record on Sunday January 13 by more than a minute.

The 35-year-old was presented with a 7,000 Nissan Micra by sponsors M.E. Travel for beating the 33 minute mark.

Her time of 32.25 also landed her 650 in prize-money, as well as the veteran s award.

The men s race was dominated by four more Kenyans, with Julius Kibet just beating James Getandi. Kibet s time of 29.13 was not enough to claim the men s car or beat the existing record.

Daniel Wicks was first local man home, finishing 11th in 33.51.
