The St Leonards cueman won three matches in the latest World Snooker ranking event, including whitewashing four-time world champion John Higgins.

Davis began with a 4-2 victory over world number 56 Anthony Hamilton on Wednesday. He won the first, third and fourth frames to take a 3-1 lead, and although Hamilton took the fifth with a break of 64, Davis closed out the match in frame six.

World number 18 Davis then edged out Scottish world number 30 Anthony McGill 4-3 in round two on Thursday despite seeing a 3-0 lead evaporate.

Runs of 52 and 41 seemingly put Davis in command at 3-0 only for McGill to clinch the next three with top breaks of 49 and 70. Davis began the decider with a 47 and although McGill replied with 37, Davis managed to get over the line.

That was followed yesterday (Friday) by a 4-0 success against another Scot, Higgins, who scored just 38 points in the match. Runs of 72 and 87 put Davis 2-0 up for the loss of just five points and a 66 in frame four sealed victory over world number 12 Higgins, winner of the recent Welsh Open.

Davis’s progress was halted in the last eight, however, by a 4-2 loss against in-form world number 61 Thepchaiya Un-Nooh later the same day.

The first four frames were shared with Thai player Un-Nooh winning the first and third aided by breaks of 79 and 45, and Davis clinching the second and fourth. Davis scored just seven points in the last two frames, though, as Un-Nooh knocked in runs of 82 and 74.

With the tournaments continuing to come thick and fast, Davis will be back at the table on Tuesday in the World Grand Prix. His first round opponent is Hong Kong star Marco Fu.
