Dalgleish proud despite defeat

STEYNING TOWN Football Club manager Mark Dalgiesh was full of praise for his players on Wednesday after their defeat to division-higher Pagham.

Pagham striker Michael Frangou scrambled home the only goal with 12 minutes of extra-time to go, but Dalgleish said: "Everyone worked so hard, and our midfield three were superb.

"When I got back home, I texted everyone to tell them all how proud I was of them."

However, Dalgleish felt referee Andrew Goddard should have red-carded Pagham's keeper towards the end of normal time.

He said: "Their keeper was only booked for violent conduct towards James Davis, but we thought it was a sending-off offence.

"He then went to make a great save from Chris Duffett moments afterwards. We feel very aggrieved."
