Hurst 1st XI win National Schools T20 Cricket Tournament

Hurst successfully progressed through four rounds beating Cranleigh, Eastbourne College, Duke of York Military School and Tonbridge. Hurst then beat Reed’s School in the quarter-final.

Finals day took place on 3rd July in the stunning grounds of Arundel Castle, where Hurst played their semi-final against Wellington College and won by 5 wickets. Jack Troak and Tom Haines generated a dynamic bowling partnership taking 3 wickets a piece whilst Dom Keats and George Garton hit 55 and 41 respectively to see Hurst over the line.

Hurst then played Malvern College in the final and fielded first. Hurst’s strong bowling and fielding performance restricted Malvern to 134 for 9 off their 20 overs with Sussex Academy players Dan Doram, George Garton and Tom Haines taking three wickets each. Opening batsmen for Hurst Dom Keats scored 42 whilst his partner Joe Ludlow scored 67 not out to set up an impressive 8 wicket win.

Nick Creed, Head of Cricket at Hurst, is elated for the team and commented, “The boys have ended the season on a high and have been rewarded for their hard work and dedication. We are truly overwhelmed by the support and would like to thank all of the schools involved and the organisers that hosted the event.”

Hurstpierpoint College is the only school in Sussex to have won the national competition since it began in 2004. The College has also won The Langdale Trophy (Sussex U18 cup) and retained the Woodard Schools Cricket Festival trophy.
