Askew hits his fifth ton of the campaign

Ally James struck 83 from just 77 balls to as Littlehampton made it four straight league victories after they beat rivals East Preston on Saturday

Askew notched an incredible 154 from 150 balls including 20 fours and six sixes as the side stretched their winning streak.

The victory means Askew’s side remain in second position in the table. They are 19 points off leaders Arundel.

Skipper Askew’s century means he has now hit five in just ten matches so far this season.

Saturday’s knock was his highest score of the season to date and he now leads the way in the West Sussex Invitation League’s run-scoring stakes with 856 runs in 11 matches.

After winning the toss and elected to bat first Littlehampton took control of the match.

Nathan Perry (29) and Askew shared an opening stand of 81 to really set the tone for the innings.

The only downside of what was a dominate batting display was the fact that Thomas Lee fell for a second ball duck as they slipped to 81 for two.

However, Askew was joined by Ally James in the middle and Littlehampton began to motor. James made 83 from 77 balls and the pair put on 166 for the third wicket.

Once James fell, Askew went soon after, but Littlehampton still posted 286 for five in 46.4 overs.

Mark Coskin took three wicket s for EP but was rather expensive, going for 78 form his 13.4 overs.

East Preston skipper got his side off to a fast start with the bat as he made 43 off 42 balls.

Tom Chamberlain top-scored for EP with 47 and  Tom Wareham-Grinstead made 31.

However, without a telling contribution like Askew’s effort for Littlehampton the visiting side were always going to struggle.

They were eventually all out for 189 in 44.5 overs.

Perry followed up his solid showing with the bat and took five wickets.

He finished with figures of 5-25 in seven overs.

Chris Heberlein took three wickets as his side won for a fourth straight week.

Littlehampton travel to Ram in the league  on Saturday, while East Preston host Felbridge and Sunnyside.
