Arundel stay top after latest success

The win was their sixth in ten matches so far this season and it means they have a 19 point cushion at the summit.

Littlehampton, who are Arundel’s closest rivals in second place, have been on a fine run, winning four straight matches and that continued as they beat East Preston on Saturday.

Arundel then have a 27 point gap on third-placed Broadwater who also won at Horsham Trinity last weekend.

Kieran Hornsby was the hero for Arundel against Ram following an amazing bowling effort.

He took a remarkable seven wickets for 47 runs in 14.5 overs as Ram were all out for 227 in 44.5 overs.

Joel Crook made 60, while Matthew Reynolds and Jacob Temple both finished unbeaten on 54 to guide their side to victory.

Ram decided to bat first and that looked to be the right decision as they made a strong start.

Bunty Suthar crashed an incredible 85 off 50 balls, including seven fours and seven sixes, to help Ram reach 123 for two.

But when Suthar fell, his side struggled and found themselves 155 for seven.

However, runs down the order from Danny Patel (48) and Prakash Krishnamurthy (30) ensured Ram reached 227 before losing their final wicket.

Hornsby took seven wickets, while Neil Chitty, Mark Barry and Reynolds all took a wicket each.

Arundel lost skipper Joe Bain for eight as they made a sloppy start in their chase.

Crook steadied the ship with a well made 60 but they still had it all to do at 82 for four and 126-5.

When Crook fell, that brought Reynolds and Temple together at the crease.

With 101 runs still needed for victory, things did not look good for Arundel.

However, a fine unbeaten sixth-wicket stand between the pair helped their side to victory.

They both ended not out on 54 which Reynolds made in 84 balls and Temple in 56 as Arundel reached 228 for five.

Dilip Chauhan, Harshil Patel, Nikesh Patel and Suthar all took one wicket apiece but they ended up on the losing side.

Arundel travel to third-placed Broadwater on Saturday for a crunch league clash.
