BROWNE SCOLDS MISSING TROOPS

FRETTING United boss Ian Browne berated absent players this week after a third defeat in four league starts sparked relegation fears.

He said: "Early this season (just promoted] we had 30 at training. Lately I've been getting just eight. We've seven games left, the two away are at Rye and Eastbourne Town. We need six points for safety but we've got to make it all happen ourselves.

"Too many games have been lost on individual mistakes instead of any brilliance from the opposition.

"We're unable to bring in any new players. Our backs are against the wall. It's a matter of character out on the pitch, some people think everything will be all right but we need everyone around the club to get behind the team."

Browne, 33, has a long injury list and had to dust off his Saturday boots and start playing last month.

Jack Hewitt got Hassocks' 15th-minute decider in a game labelled 0-0 on Saturday. His scuffed 30-yard, needlessly-conceded free kick was misjudged by keeper Danny Swietlik and rolled inside a post. United's best chance was wasted when Sonny Banks charged down Hassocks keeper Joel Harding's clearance but his impetuous cross flashed across goal and out for a throw in.

UNITED: Swietlik; O'Sullivan, Footman, Pickles, Webb; N.Shelley, J.Shelley, Moses; Banks, Browne, Texteira. Subs: Preddy (Banks 75 chest inf), Bone, D. Di Paola, Fuller gk. Att: 44.
