Bexhill stumble to another defeat

BEXHILL collapsed to another heavy defeat to leave them rooted to the foot of the Sussex Cricket League.

Once again Bexhill's batting capitulated as they were dismissed for 116 in the Division Two match at home to Littlehampton who went on complete an eight-wicket win.

Captain Steve Phillimore admitted: "It's the first time we have played like a bottom-of-the-table side. We were poor, very poor. We got exactly what we deserved."

Despite enjoying a good batting track at the Polegrove, Bexhill soon found themselves tottering at 68-6 in the face of some tight, accurate bowling from the visitors. Only Alan Cowley (23) and Neil Broughton (25) hung around to make the score look slightly respectable.

Bexhill's heart never really seemed in it with the ball as Littlehampton quickly amassed the runs they needed to pick up the maximum 30 points. Richard Vokes hit an undefeated 76.

Bexhill will be looking for a dramatic improvement when they visit Haywards Heath on Saturday July 5.
