Beth makes her move

WORTHING Hockey Club's women are to lose Beth Warner. The most talented and dynamic player their junior programme has produced since Kathy Minchell in the mid-1980s, Warner is to join National League club Trojans of Southampton next season, after turning only 17 later this month.

Minchell, an attacking centre-half for Worthing and county, joined Ealing considerably later in her career after captaining Sussex. She later returned to Worthing and has been instrumental in discovering and coaching Warner as a child.

Bethany Warner, also a natural cricketer and golfer, can play in almost any position, including goalkeeper, where she has appeared in emergency for her club. She plays at full-back for the Sussex and South Juniors and at sweeper, central midfield or striker for Worthing.
