Batsmen still green around the gills

THERE is a lot more experience to be gained by Worthing's crop of promising young batsmen before they will carry off the kind of victory scenario of they felt capable on Saturday.

Worthing had bowled out the league leaders for 176 on an outfield baked to straw and worth at least 50 more runs, and they were wondering what all the fuss was about.

They had fully 56 overs in which to reply but the target soon started to recede after Lewes' undistinguished opening attack, plus their first change seamer John Aspden, had removed, apparently without excess use of grey matter, the four young men in the first six of Worthing's batting line-up.

The arrival at 50 for three of overseas off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth into the Priory attack emphasised how much work needed to have been done early in the Worthing reply.
