Young critics to the fore

BOOKWORMS from Little-hampton School were whisked away to London to meet bestselling children's authors at the Carn-egie/Greenaway Children's Book Awards.

Carnegie publishes children's fiction and Greenway children's picture books.

The pupils, from years seven to 10, met writers such as Marcus Sedgwick, Kevin Brooks and Linda Newbery, as well as their illustrators, to find out more about their work.

Thirty students from the school have read either four or five short-listed books each and have written reviews for the Carnegie website. The school has organised a special book reviewers' lunch for them on July 4. Before lunch, they will work in groups to create a poster for each book. They will finish the day by voting for the best Carnegie book of the year.

All year seven pupils are also in the process of voting for the best Greenaway book of the year and the winner will be announced on July 11.

Log onto Carnegie website www.ckg.org.uk/shadowing and you can read what the Littlehampton School pupils think of the shortlisted books.
