Worthing cyclists to form archway for Don Lock’s funeral

Mr Lock, 79, died tragically on July 16 after he was stabbed on the A24 at Findon.

He was a long-standing member of Worthing Excelsior Cycing Club and a bicycle escort will accompany the funeral procession on Wednesday, August 12, from Broadwater Green up to Worthing Crematorium.

The funeral service starts at 3pm but those wishing to be part of the procession are asked to congregate at 2pm on the green, opposite the Broadwater Parish Rooms, where the cycling club usually meet.

The procession will then depart at 2.30pm escorted by the SERV motorcycles – emergency voluntary riders – as well as a police rolling road closure.

All cyclists taking part were asked to wear their own club colours. Once at the crematorium, cyclists wishing to take part will be asked to form an arch with the front wheels of the bikes, through which Don will be carried into the chapel.

It is expected there will be a very high turnout and both chapels at the crematorium have been reserved for the service.

Mr Lock’s family want to celebrate his life and have asked people to wear a combination of dark blue, light blue and white – the colours of Worthing Excelsior CC and Brighton & Hove Albion FC.

In terms of flowers, the family would prefer that all those attending simply bring a single blue or white flower with them to place on the coffin after the service.

Matthew Daley, 34, of St Elmo Road, Worthing, was charged with Mr Lock’s murder and has been remanded in custody.
