Winter sun shines on Bognor

More sunshine than ever before '“ that was last month in Bognor Regis.

February saw the town bathed in 150.4 hours of sunshine. This was more than twice the seasonal average of 67.9 hours and easily beat the previous record of 143.7 hours set in February 1988.

The sunniest day of a month unparalleled since records began in the late 19th century was the 18th with 9.5 hours. This endless sight of a blue sky also meant that the amount of rainfall slumped. Just 26.7mm of rain was recorded at Bognor Regis Town Council's weather station at Waterloo Square.

The seasonal average is 72.83mm. Only eight days were wet. Most of those were at the end of the month.

The amount of dry and sunny weather also pushed up the temperature. The warmest day was the 26th at 13C/55.4F to push the seasonal maximum temperature to 10.2C compared to the 7.2C seasonal average.

The coldest time was the 17th at -5C/23F but the mean average minimal temperature still reached 3.5C compared to the usual 2.4C.
