Westergate Methodist Church welcomes two newcomers

Two newcomers have been welcomed by worshippers at Westergate Methodist Church.

The members of the congregation attended a special service to celebrate the arrival of the Rev Nigel Stapeley.

He and his wife, Jan, have recently returned to the UK from Francistown in Botswana where they had been working for the past eight years.

Nigel was working with the Light and Courage Centre Trust at its day centre for those infected or affected by Aids.

Before that, the couple were based in the Bristol and Bath area.

They are living in Littlehampton because their new post is a joint one which also covers the United Church in Littlehampton.

His welcome service involved church members from Westergate and Littlehampton as well as other local churches.

The Rev Gavin Hancocks led the service and the preacher was the chairman of the south east district of the Methodist Church, the Rev John Hellyer.

Also arriving at the church, as its children and family worker, is Jennifer Ansell.

She is based at the Westergate Street church and will be leading work in the local area, focusing on a Christian outreach to its many families.

A welcoming event took place as well to mark her arrival.
