Well-earned praise as group honours volunteers

Volunteers who dedicate their time to a Bognor Regis-based charity which provides help and support to people with sight problems have been rewarded for their hard work.

Patron Lady Sarah Clutton was invited to present awards to several 4Sight (West Sussex Association for the Blind) volunteers at a special ceremony held at Lodge Hill Centre near Pulborough.

One award was presented to Tony Parkins, who helps in 4Sight's transcription studio and has been with the charity for many years.

The charity's chief executive, Martin Pearson said: 'He always comes in at the drop of a hat even when we leave it to the last minute, never whinges about what we ask and gets the job done.

'We could not ask for much more from a volunteer.

'The members enjoy listening to him '“ especially his anecdotes. He has even got fan mail from some of the members recently.'

Margaret and Ray Russell run 4Sight's self-help group in East Preston.

Ray is a volunteer driver for 4Sight and Margaret also visits members out of club time. She regularly refers people to 4Sight for help and constantly promotes the charity in the community.

Also rewarded for her work was Aldwick resident Eve Mobbs, who is described as a real stalwart of the organisation by staff and fellow volunteers.

Aged in her 90s, Eva is constantly there with her guide dog Karena and is always ready to take on a challenge in aid of 4Sight.

Martin Peason said: 'She has already been a triumph over the Worthing abseil and the Angmering-Amble sponsored walk this year.

'She is a wise counsellor and encourager for those who find themselves with sight loss. This is a much-deserved special recognition award for a lovely lady.'
