Weather woes strike Littlehampton's Stage by the Sea '“ again

A constant barrage of heavy rain and powerful winds have forced contractors to slow their work to complete the new facility, in Banjo Road.

The project had already faced delays getting off the ground following inclement weather, earlier in 2014. It had been hoped that it would be built by summer, last year.

However, work was delayed from its initial date of June until September.

A spokeswoman for Littlehampton Town Council said: “The contractors are really pleased with the work so far but they have had major setbacks due to the weather conditions.

“The structure is mainly made up of sprayed concrete and as you can imagine they need dry weather to do that kind of work. They’re hoping to have the work completed by the end of January.”

It is hoped that, once completed, the seaside attraction could be used by music and theatre groups for outdoor productions.

When not being used by performance groups it would serve as an outdoor shelter for beach-goers.

Councillor Paul Dendle, Arun District Council’s cabinet member for environmental services with responsibility for tourism said it will be a ‘great addition’ to the town’s tourism offering.
