Local LibDems including Polegate Cllr Roy Martin and Willingdon Cllrs Stephen Shing and Andy Watkins met with Mr Baker and the manager of Eastbourne Buses to discuss the issue.

Now the company has agreed to extend service 21 to take in the Polegate to Langney route, as from late October.

Norman Baker said: 'I am delighted the county council has listened to my call and will now restore a direct service from Polegate to Langney shopping centre. Route 17 was a regular service which was entirely removed from the schedule. The new service 21 will now allow Polegate residents to shop in Langney, a lifeline for many of my elderly and infirm constituents in Polegate.'
