Vandals trash Tarring allotments

TARRING gardeners were left in tears after their allotments were targeted by vandals.

Bricks and wood were used to smash windows and sheds at West Tarring allotments, in Ringmer Road.

The damage was discovered when allotment-owner Nicole Child was called by a neighbour to say plots she had tended for three years were among those damaged.

"It was gut-wrenching. I was in tears," said Mrs Child, who is part of an organic co-operative of growers at the site.

"We are all peaceful people. I can't understand vandalism like that, where people are working to improve the environment for everybody."

The vandalism was the latest in a number of attacks on the allotments in recent weeks.

Police have now stepped up patrols in the area and urged witnesses to get in touch.
