UPDATE: Brighton flat 'has been made safe' after suspicious items were found

Residents are now being allowed home after police evacuated a 12 storey block of flats in central Brighton this morning.

It follows officers finding items believed to be 'hazardous and potentially explosive' at Highleigh on Grove Hill.

Police arrived at 7.20am and confirmed the flat has now been made safe and residents are being allowed home.

Detective Superintendent Carwyn Hughes said: "Thank you to everyone for their patience."

A spokesman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue confirmed a unit had been sent to assist.
