Two Rye hotels in the top 20 in the South East

Two hotels in Rye are in the top 20 in the South East, according to a leading holidays website.

Willow Tree House and Saltcote Place Rye came 14th and 17th respecitively in the list of the best rated hotels in the region by trivago.co.uk.

The hotels were sorted based on the website’s rating index, based on more than 190million worldwide ratings from more than 30 sites.

The bed and breakfast on Winchelsea Road has a rating of 94 per cent and an average room rate of £116, while the Playden B&B earned a 93.8 per cent rating with an average room costing £234.

Willow Tree House owner Adrian Austin said: “We’re quite chuffed as we didn’t even know we were in it.

“Anything like this is a good boost for the reputation.

“Our tripadvisor reviews are consistently excellent as well and although it came out of the blue, anything of that nature is a boost for us and guests coming to stay with us as it’s good to know.

“It’s not the easiest business but we’re obviously doing the right things and it makes it all the more worthwhile.”

Alan Midgley and Paul King run Saltcote Place and were pleased with the award, saying it brings more visitors to the area which is always good.

The Playden B&B and wedding venue was one of 100 hotels in the country to be given a Rose award by Visit England.

Eleven Brighton-based hotels are in the top 20 plus the Albert & Victoria and The Langtons in Eastbourne.

Celebrity chef Raymond Blanc’s Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire came first in the South East and UK Public Relations’ Denise Bartlett said it was easy to see why.

“With its hard working staff and mission of excellence, it is easy to see why luxury country house hotel, , is our top-rated hotel this year,” she said.

“It is interesting to note the high number of B&Bs in the top 20 hotels in the South East.

“With B&Bs averaging £70 per night rated as highly as hotels averaging over £700 per night, it seems users are satisfied by the family-run environment and friendly service offered by B&Bs.

“The trivago Top Hotel Awards aim to judge all accommodation fairly, whether they are a luxury hotel or a B&B.
